Birkebeiner run half marathon 21 km June 11th, 2022
Birkebeinerløpet is one of the most famous running races in Norway. The course is 21 km and takes you through various forest terrain.
Start at Birkebeineren Skistadion and finish at Håkons Hall, Lillehammer.
All competitors must have passed 16 years of age as per 31.12.2022.

Keep Birken clean
Littering along the route is not allowed, and will be punished with 15 minutes added to your time. Please bring your litter it to the nearest food station, or use the drop zones along the course

Birkebeinerløpet has seeded wave start and free seeding.
You choose wave when entering the race. You can change wave at your My Page if avalable spots until June 9th.
All waves start at real time , except men and women elite that start at start shot.

Final waves and starting times will be given 1-2 weeks prior the race.

Results and the Birkebeiner medal
Participants in the elite classes will get results in both elite classes, and their age classes.
Results in the elite classes do not affect the time limit for receiving the Birken medal. Participants in these classes will gain the medal if their results are within the time limit set by de top 5 participants in each age class.

To recieve the Birkebeiner Medal (merket) there is a time limit based on the average time of the top 5 competitors plus 25%, worked out separately for each class. Participants finishing within the limit for the first time will receive a diploma and the "Birkebeiner Medal" silver pin.
Note: Competitors starting in Men and Women Elite does not affect the Birkebeiner Medal time limit.
The Birkebeiner medal, and the honorary diploma, is given to participants qualifying 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 times.
Achieving the max time qualifies to:
1. medal - SMK (Silver medal)
5. medal - GMK (Gold medal)
10. medal - SST (Silver statue)
15. medal - Krus (Pewter pitcher)
20. medal - GST (Gold statue)
The results of participants starting in the elite classes is registered both in the elite class, and their age class. No max time is calculated in the elite classes, but participants in these classes gains the Birkebeiner medal if they are within the max time set for their age class.
All participants recieve a competitors medal and a diploma that will be avialable for download at My Page
The top three contestants in each class recieves their prizes from the stage outside Håkons Hall.
Distribution of all other prizes is inside Håkons Hall.
We do not send prizes or medals in the mail, so please remember to retrieve yours before leaving the area.
Participated 10 and 20 times
All participants finishing the Birkebeinerløpet 10 and 20 times, recieves a gourmet plate from Hadeland Glassverk. The plate is ingraved.
The plate is distributed inside Håkons Hall.
Preliminary information for Birkebeinerløpet 2022
8 km from start. Transportation to Håkons Hall: 16.30
We expect that everyone has passed the finish line at 18.00.
If you need to abandon the race, please notify our volunteers in the track. Transport to the finish will be arranged from our Sjøsetervegen, Mesnasaga and Krorken.
Need to know in advance
You will need a apporved corona certificate to enter the race.
- All competitors in Birkebeinerrittet must have a approved COVID certificate to start.
- Information about EU Digital COVID certificate
- If you do not have an approved COVID certificate you will have to show a negative test taking no longer than 24 hours before start. The test can be done where you live or in Lillehammer.
- Test station for Birken will be available Friday September 3rd, 17.00-21-00 in Lillehammer (Håkons Hall), and Saturday September 4th at Birkebeineren ski stadium (start area) from 08.30.
- The test will take at least 20 minutes.
If you are starting in an early wave, we recommend to take the test the day before start.
- The test at Birken test station is free for the competitors in Birkebeinerrittet.

Bus and parking
Roads that will be closed on race day
- Sjøsetervegen will be closed east of Birkebeiner Skistadion where HalvBirken run crosses the road between 09.30-16.00
- Nybuvegen is closed. Furubakken will be periodically closed 09.00-17.00
All participants, including foreigners, must have a valid license to enter Norwegian running events.
All participants age 13-79 must have a valid licence to start in running events in Norway. If you have a valid licence through your team, bring your licence card when you retrieve your BIB.
The licence is not included in the entry fee. It can be purchased when entering, through your My Page, or at the race office when retrieving your BIB.
Exception: Birken 5KM - AKTIV against cancer: Licence is included in the entry fee.
Injuries during the race
If you are injured during one of the Birkebeiner events, please contact the insurance company.
All competitors needs a license.
Bacpak is compulsary for UltraBirken run.
For safety reasons there are special rules for clothes and equipment that you must bring when participating in UltraBirken: Food, drink, extra clothes, reflex west, mobile phone. Bumbag is not allowed
For your safety it is not allowd to use any form of audio during the race.
Time keeping / Bib
The BIB must be visible at all times during the race. For your own safety it is not allowed to wear another participants BIB.
Identification must be provided in case of random control.
Your bib is also your time keeper. A chip at the back side of the bib logs your start time, split time and time at the finish.
Real time: Birkebeinerløpet and HalvBirken run
A start mat placed at start activates your time keeping when you pass it. Exceptions: The elite classes in Birkebeinerløpet and wave 1 in HalvBirken run start at start shot.
Start shot UltraBirken run, Birken fjellmaraton and UngdomsBirken run
Time keeping starts as the start shot is fired.
Split times/Birkebeiner medal times during the race
During Birkebeinerløpet time keeping boards is placed by Sjøsætervegen and Kroken. It tells you what time you need to be able to make the Birkebeiner medal. Note: These times are all un-official.
Against race conditions: 30 minutes after passing the finish line.
Against the list of results: 30 minutes after the list and results have been published.
The complaint must be submitted in writing with a fee of NOK 100 at the Race Office in Håkons Hall.

Starting card is available for download from your My Page, from approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the race. This is your participation confirmation.The start card must be shown to retrieve your BIB. You may also use the Birken app for this.
There is no registration on the day of the race.

Remember to use the labels inckuded in your race package, and then bring your luggage to the drop zone.
Birken holds no liability for lost/ruined luggage during transport or storage.

Timing / Bib
The bib must be fastened to your chest ( shirt) with safety pins.
Your result is registered in the chip that is integrated in your start number.
